I just noticed this today. Probably sheer coincidence:
The present is all past. The future is nothing. The hand has disappeared
from the clock’s face. No more struggle between love and hate, between
life and death. Both have been equalized, and love’s emptying out has
become the emptiness of hell. One has penetrated the other perfectly.
The nadir has reached the zenith.
--Hans Urs von Balthazar on Holy Saturday
3:33 when the numbers fell off the clock face
Speed dialing with no signal at all
Go, shout it out, rise up

I love this.
what would you guesstemnate the percent chance that Bono has actually read HUVB (or at least come across the quote..) The more i learn, i am blown away to imagine what may be on Bono's bedside reading table..We know he reads Eugene Peterson, and Peterson quotes him a lot, and even has called HUVB “the twentieth century’s premier theologian on Christian spirituality"..
Dave - I was not aware of the Peterson connection. My guess on the quote is that the odds are infinitesimal - but that he's read vonB, well, maybe, then....
What a great find - I love it!
Why does it say 3:33 when it happens?
The most usual answer about why 3:33 is that, as we know was done on the cover of "All That You Can't Leave Behind," the number is a reference to Jeremiah 33:3.
